j'ai notemment acheté au fil des parutions l'édition US avec délectation, et je ne la qualifierait pas d'opération "prestige", puisque l'éditeur a été jusqu'au bout de sa démarche
To start this event recap with a banger- Gothicmade was MASTERED IN 12K. Not 4K, which was a DOWNSCALE for theatrical release. The actual size of the master is 1.5 Terrabytes, and a UHD disc can only fit in 5 minutes. One of the scenes was animated on paper over a meter long.
Gothicmade had over 160,000 cels (layers of animation) in total. For reference, the average modern anime episode has around 2000 cels. Sunrise at its peak in the past used around 8,000 cels per ep in their shows, with ep 1 of Zeta Gundam having 12,000 cels.
It should be noted that Gothicmade was created more like older anime, where cel count is not indicative of fluid animation, but the amount of objects onscreen i.e. layers of wind. Anime nowadays is generally more economic and fluid thanks to digital technology.
As for other old-school qualities to the film, Nagano encouraged the VAs to speak as raw/natural as possible instead of the usual more exaggerated voice acting that is the norm for modern anime. Tomino did something similar with Reconguista in G.
Originally the rescreenings were only meant to last 1-2 years after its release, but the film became more popular than expected and as a result is still being shown to this day.
The reason we're not seeing more Gothicmade figures/models being sold in the past few years is because Nagano placed a ban on them. This ban will be officially lifted once the Volks Kaiserin is released, and he hopes it will be by the end of this year.
And a final reminder of how he wants Gothicmade to be seen in theaters, doubling down on his oath to never release the film on disc.
The rest of the event was more about Gothicmade's production, future plans for the story direction of the manga up to volume 16, and some other Nagano opinions. I'll try to recap it all once I have the gist of everything that was said.
So there wasn't much announced at the recent Nagano meeting. The most notable bit of news is that FSS Designs 6: Xross Jammer finally has an official release date of February 9, 2019. As seen in the LRT, the cover is of the new Zarathustra Apterbringer (LED Mirage).
